Responsible for the delivery of quality patient care through the nursing process of assessment, planning, implementation, and evaluation.  Demonstrates knowledge of special needs and tasks appropriate to each age group as applicable.  Also, directs and guides patient teaching and activities of licensed and non-licensed nursing service personnel while maintaining the standards of practice of professional nursing. Employee performs within the prescribed limits of the District and department legal compliance program.  Is responsible to detect, observe and report compliance variances to their immediate supervisor, upward through the chain of command, the Compliance Officer or District hotline.  The House Supervisor is also responsible for supervision and coordination of nursing care activities on a hospital wide level. Seen as an extension of the departmental managers in their absence and is delegated the responsibility to act as nursing administration with the hospital administrative personnel available on-call. This person makes rounds on the patient care units and is available as needed for issues that benefit from management help and or/intervention. The House Supervisor also ensures that there is adequate staff on each unit based on joint collaboration with each patient unit’s leadership designee.


  • Current registered nurse license in the State of Texas
  • Basic Life Support (BLS)
  • A Bachelor’s Degree in Nursing is preferred, National certification is preferred
  • ICU/ED and Management experience also preferred


Knowledge, Skills and Abilities Required:

In addition to clinical nursing skills, public relations, negotiating and prioritizing, problem-solving abilities and positive interpersonal communication skills are essential.  Must be able to ambulate and stand for long periods at a time and function in high pressure situations.  Ability to lift, bend, kneel, reach, push/pull loads required.  In addition, be able to tolerate rapid fluctuations in work load.


Maintains high ethical standards.  Shares knowledge with peers and participates in the orientation of new employees.  Flexible in meeting the needs of the department, reports to work at the assigned time.  Completes assignments in a timely manner.  Adheres to unit dress code.  Expected to cross train to other units and willingly float to those units when requested to do so.  Demonstrates professional behavior.
